13. It never fully feels like fall until I’ve caught a leaf before it hits the ground. This is a lot more challenging now that I live in a city than it was when I was in the good part of the Midwest. But I caught two yesterday, on my way to a coffee shop in order to work on my novel. Excellent.
14. Why is it that salt and pepper are the matched sets of spices on tables? Why not salt and paprika? Or pepper and basil? How did that come to be? (Seriously, if you have an answer, I’d like to know.) I was thinking about that last night as I put oregano and pepper on my microwave dinner (I also put on two kinds of vinegar: red wine on the potatoes, balsalmic on the meat... I have an addiction).
15. Tonight, my friend Anna and I went to wait outside the red carpet for the premiere of Fred Clause. The security guy actually opened up the barricade for me so that I could step onto the red carpet when he overheard me tell Anna that it was on my list of things to do before I die (yay! I can check off stepping on the red carpet!). We saw Bill Rancic, Kim Coles, Brian Urlacher (who is MASSIVE, by the way), John Michael Higgins, and Vince Vaughn (who plays the title character). I had a giggle fit as soon as I saw Vince and promptly hid behind Anna, who stuck out my notebook to get his autograph for me. As you can see, his signature looks more like a series of lines and checkmarks than an actual name.
